James C. Tanner |
Writer, Speaker, and Business Coach |
"Victorious people never surrender and simply accept defeat. For those who choose to walk through life in victory, the consideration of defeat can never be an option. There can NEVER be a Plan B. It's all or nothing!" -- James C. Tanner |
"What is our aim? I can answer in one word: VICTORY ...victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory however long and hard the road may be; for without victory there can be no survival." --Sir Winston Churchill |
The quiet man inside February 3, 2010 |
Clearly uncomfortable trying to describe himself, James C. Tanner stated, "History will define each and every one of us on it's own. I'm never easy trying to state in a single sentence who I am." Raised in a middle class Irish Protestant family, a solid work ethic was deeply engrained into James as a child. "My earliest memories, back around the age of four or five, are of moments working with my brother on my father's construction sites. I can remember packing ladders around foundation holes, and doing site clean up. |

Every Saturday morning, Dad would have us do chores at an Apartment complex he built for my mother, then we'd head over to clean up the church for Sunday Services. There was little time for us as kids, to get into mischief." Recognizing that every person holds to some form of ideals, this gentle man went on to say, "We're all products of our upbringing, life experiences and relationships. Over time I've mellowed in some areas and firmed up in others. I enjoy a private lifestyle. The only real way to successfully understand the way I tick is to remember I'm first and foremost, a horseman from way back. A cowboy philosophy has become an integral part of who I am at the core. From my roots and life experiences I've carved out a personal code which I live by without wavering. Simply stated: 1.) I will remain true to myself no matter the outside opinion, or influence. 2.) I won't ask anything of any person I'm not prepared to try and do myself. 3.) I won't bend my knee to any man or woman, save but my Queen, and my God. 4.) To be included in my inner circle of influence, loyalty is not optional. Disloyal influences end up on the outside looking in permanently. 5.) No matter who the family member, friend, or stranger is, if they come between me and a good woman then we're finished ...with NO second chance! A lot of people don't understand the code I live by, and that's okay. It's a personal code to guide myself, not them." James C. Tanner began working with horses at the age of 12, a passion left to him from a grandfather he never really knew except through stories. "My grandfather on my Dad's side was known for his driving teams. He was a man who would never harness his horses on a Sunday unless it was an emergency. While friends would place their teams into stoneboat competitions, my grandfather held back never wanting his horses to work any harder than they needed to. Horses remain a strong passion of mine, and even with my past injuries, I hold onto the dream of riding again. I hold this dream so close to my heart that you'll actually find my saddle sitting in my bedroom. It's the first thing I see each morning when my feet hit the floor. A silent motivation. For myself, in this life there'll always be one more hill to climb--one more horse to ride." |
